What was H.G. Wells´ life like?

Herbert George Wells was born in Bromely, Kent, England. He became a draper's apprentice at age 13, and later won a scholarship to the Normal School of Science in London. In 1895, he gained success with the publication of his first novel, The Time Machine. His later works focused on Utopianism, and he also wrote the nonfiction Outline of History. Wells has been called the "father of science fiction" and many of his novels have been made into popular current movies.

Thomas Hardy was born near Dorchester, England. At a young age, he was apprenticed to an architect. His architectural career eventually took him to London, where he started writing poetry and published an essay. When he married Emma Gifford in 1874, he was earning his living writing novels. Throughout his life, Hardy continued to write poetry, publishing some 900 poems, though he is best remembered for his novels.
